Mike Kowall has lived in Oakland County most of his life. He knows how important it is to preserve and build upon the Oakland County that L. Brooks Patterson has worked so hard to develop during his service.
Mike Kowall has a record of leadership, success and standing up for Oakland County families. Mike has been a champion for our local communities and has fought the current Oakland County leadership in raising property taxes on homeowners to pay for a Transit System that would not benefit Oakland County.
Mike has worked hard to promote sustainable economic development, protect our environment and quality of life and create an environment of fiscal responsibility. Mike is the only candidate for County Executive that will:
TAX INCREASES AND TRANSIT:
MIKE WILL fight ANY proposal that adds additional taxes on Oakland County Citizens for programs, or Transit Systems. Mike has fought, and won, against the current Administration’s plan to raise the average homeowner’s taxes by $1,020.00 per year. This money would have harmed Seniors, and many of the homeowners & local communities around our County by taxing homeowners out of their homes.
AAA BOND RATING – FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Our current Oakland County Leaders say they are working to maintain the AAA Bond Rating, but their actions don’t coincide with their words. MIKE KOWALL will maintain fiscal restraint, and responsibility and stop wasting money on political pet projects. Maintaining a AAA Bond rating allows us to bond for infrastructure programs and fix our roads at a lesser expense. The leaders in Oakland now are turning us away from the fiscal responsibility that has fostered the Economic Development and Quality of Life we have seen over the last 30 years.
THREE YEAR BALANCED BUDGET – FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
It was under the leadership of Brooks Patterson that Oakland County became the first County in the Nation to adopt a three-year rolling line item budgets. MIKE KOWALL wants to maintain this level of fiscal forecasting. MIKE KOWALL will pledge to provide a balanced budget and will work to maintain the fiscal responsibility of the County.
EMERGING SECTORS AND BUILDING THE LOCAL ECONOMY:
MIKE KOWALL has a record of balancing budgets and developing emerging sectors in our economy. Mike’s Emerging Sector’s Job Creation & Retention strategy will create future smart development, maintain our quality of life and attract financial investment into Oakland County, making our county a leader in the Medical, IT, Financial & Manufacturing sectors
QUALITY MEDICAL & LIFE SCIENCE:
MIKE KOWALL has the relationships, and the experience, to make Oakland County the top destination for quality medical care, and life science research. Oakland County has a Medical School with the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, and now we must attract, and develop, the best-in-class research and treatment facilities, to serve our citizens and reverse the brain drain from Southeastern Michigan.
REVITALIZING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES:
MIKE KOWALL is committed to revitalizing the ‘Main Street Oakland’ Program. A Program that would invest money in the revitalization of Oakland County’s downtown areas. MIKE KOWALL is also committed in preserving our County green space, and Parks & Recreation areas.
REPAIRING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE:
MIKE KOWALL has the experience, relationships and the know how to bring our fair share of funding back to Oakland County, and make sure that our roads, bridges and infrastructure are repaired.
Oakland County used to lead the nation in thoughtful management, effective spending and efficiency, but that was prior to the current administrations political spending spree. We need steady leadership. We need leadership that is committed to putting Oakland County, and our families health, safety and security first.
